Blizzard has announced more details about Overwatch 2’s story mode, as well as hero missions and skill trees. All heroes and enemies have been redesigned, from the small details to the new looks.
Skill trees and hero progression
For all PvE modes in Overwatch 2, all heroes will have skill trees to upgrade. This was announced in the original revelation, but more details were shown at BlizzCon 2021. Each hero can choose from three trees to cut down and develop, just like Borderlands. For these three trees, there are seven skill levels to learn. Some of these abilities were removed from the game long ago, such as Mercy’s area of effect resurrection.
Elemental abilities are one of the best things that happens with hero quests. Effects like Electricity and Freeze will have more development in the PvE game modes. This includes examples like adding electricity to Junkrat traps. Many hero skill trees have not been released, which means there is a lot to learn about potential builds.
Hero missions mode
Hero Mission is the new cooperative game mode in Overwatch 2, played in locations around the world. These missions allow you to upgrade and upgrade your heroes, as well as experience maps in entirely new ways. This includes new map areas, different types of enemies to face, and even dynamic weather conditions. Players will encounter snowstorms in Toronto and sandstorms in the Temple of Anubis. In addition, each card will have a day, noon and night version.
These missions will unfold in much the same way as the events we have each year in Overwatch, but with more variations. The Overwatch team mentioned that they plan to launch “hundreds” of these missions throughout the game, giving players plenty of opportunities to level up their heroes. Each mission will have elements of the story and any hero can play it.
Overwatch 2 story mode update
The Blizzard team has been working hard on the Overwatch 2 campaign. As the original reveal showed, the Overwatch heroes are reuniting because of another Omnic Uprising. So far, the new areas announced include an Indian map heavily inspired by the Symmetra comic, as well as Gothenburg and Toronto previously shown. Heroes are not shortlisted for all story missions, which means that players can play as any heroes they want. Also, different hero combos can generate different interactions in the game.
Of course, with the time that has passed since the original Overwatch, heroes are different too. The team showed key examples in Widowmaker, McCree, Reaper, and Pharah. However, the enemies have also changed a lot since the Overwatch 2 reveal. Blizzard has admitted that they need to rebuild the villains in the game because they didn’t initially feel fun to defeat them. This includes new versions of enemies, the Extractor being an excellent example.
During BlizzCon 2021, PvP changes with the new maps they were also announced.
