The bosses blamed a COACH driver for joking that Bristol residents are marrying their cousins.
The man's controversial quarrel came as he was laying passengers on a Megabus service from London to Cardiff.
He said through the loudspeaker, "I'm not saying that the people of Bristol are weird, but the last time I came here, a guy introduced me to his wife, his mother, his daughter, his cousin, aunt and niece – and they were all the same woman. "
He also informed the passengers that when they were in the city, they could "buy a banjo, rent a combine or even marry their cousin".
A traveler did not see the funny side and complained to the national carrier Megabus. He said the driver would be disciplined for "totally unacceptable" comments.
But others have supported it online. Bristolian Grahame Dodd said, "It's like a joke. We do the same for the places and people of Swindon and Yeovil. "
