Representatives of a class action lawsuit against Riot Games hired a new lawyer and withdrew their proposal for a $ 10 million deal.
The move comes after it was revealed last month that 1,000 class members can he’s actually entitled to $ 400 million.
Two California state agencies suggested that the ongoing gender discrimination lawsuit against Riot Games had been poorly handled by the plantiff’s legal representation, Rosen & Saba.
Together, the Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) and the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (DLSE) filed an appeal against the settlement, finding a problem with the final figure of $ 10 million and suggesting that Riot Games had started in collusion with Rosen & Saba.
Earlier this month a judge had to decide on the validity of this intervention, but the hearing was postponed to an unconfirmed date.
Nonetheless, class action representatives Melanie McCracken, Jessica Negron and Gabriela Downie found a new lawyer with women’s rights lawyer Genie Harrison.
Harrison, who is known for filing a lawsuit against the Weinstein Company following #MeToo, is joined by labor lawyer Joseph Lovretovich.
Harrison and Lovretovich are now looking for expert analysis of alleged discrimination to find an appropriate solution figure.
“These brave women have spoken out against gender inequality and sexism and I want to make sure they are compensated enough,” says Harrison.
“Our well-qualified statisticians are already analyzing wage data. We intend to recover the compensation due to women from Riot Games and carry out institutional reforms in order to level the playing field for women.”
Following the intervention of DFEH and DLSE, a Riot Games spokesman described the $ 400 million figure as a “clickbait”.
