Plans of the Ministry of the Interior to provide roast chicken boxes with knife crime stories were described as "embarrassing", "stupid" and "racist".

More than 321,000 chicken boxes with the government's #knifefree campaign were distributed to over 210 stores in England and Wales.

The insides of the boxes are printed with real-life stories of adolescents who choose to do positive activities such as boxing or music instead of carrying a knife.

The boxes replace the standard packs in independent and chain stores, including Morleys, Chicken Cottage and Dixy Chicken.

Police Minister Kit Malthouse said, "These chicken boxes will bring to thousands of young people the tragic consequences of carrying a knife and question the idea that it makes you safer.

"The government is doing its utmost to combat the senseless violence that traumatizes communities and calls for too many young lives, including the strengthening of police ranks by 20,000 new police officers on our streets."

However, the move was criticized as "embarrassing" and "ridiculous" and "cross-border racist".

Shadow Secretary of the Interior Diane Abbot said, "Instead of investing in a public health approach to counter violent crime, the Home Office has opted for another crude, offensive and likely expensive campaign.

"They would invest better in our communities than demonize them."

Television and comedy writer James Felton said, "Honestly, if the best idea for countering knife crime is writing things about roast chicken, you should embarrass your power forever and not tweet proudly about it as if you had You just solved the world hunger. & # 39;

Another Twitter user added, "If you spend some money to fund community outreach projects, social workers, job opportunities, and schools, are you having too much trouble?"

The Twitter users criticized the campaign for "borderline racism". Fried Chicken is an old leg in racist depictions of black people.
