Barcelona seeks the reaction against Elche in LaLiga

Barcelona are looking for a balsamic victory on Wednesday against Elche in the late match of the first day of LaLiga (18h00 GMT), after the last two setbacks in the Champions League and in the domestic competition.

“Of course I am very disappointed, perhaps even more so than on Tuesday,” said Barça coach Ronald Koeman on Sunday after drawing 1-1 with Cádiz in LaLiga.

The draw took Barça off the league podium, giving up its third place to Sevilla, which on Monday beat Osasuna 2-0.

The tie came after the Barça team received a severe 4-1 correction on Tuesday in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Paris Saint-Germain.

“We could close the gap with those at the top (in the league), in a match in which we have not encountered many problems, it is a match that this team has to win and it has not,” Koeman added on Sunday.

Located eight points behind Atlético de Madrid, LaLiga leaders, Barcelona are forced to react against Elche, before facing Sevilla on Saturday in the 25th day of the Spanish championship.

Adding three points against a team that is trying to get out of the relegation places to the second division will be vital and would give Barça morale before their double confrontation with the Andalusian team.

After playing on Saturday in LaLiga, Sevilla and Barça will meet again on March 3 in the semifinal round of the Copa del Rey, where the Catalans will have to try to overcome the 2-0 against harvested in the first leg.

Barcelona continues to try to find the effectiveness that translates into goals the large number of chances that it usually generates as against Cádiz, with a single goal after 20 shots.

Recovering their aim will be essential for the Catalans, who with a victory against Elche could once again become third in the championship and get closer to five points from Atlético.
