Barcelona’s new board are starting to make sporting decisions. The club are progressing with contract renewals for Ilaix Moriba and Oscar Mingueza, but the objective now is to tie down Ousmane Dembele before the season ends. The French forward’s deal expires in 2022 and the club want to prolong it for three more years, until 2025, to avoid losing him for free.
Dembele will have to decide in the coming weeks because, if not, Barça will place him on the transfer market and there are many clubs interested in signing him. Barça are working against the clock to get the best possible decision.
The situation has changed a lot. The winger has won his place in Ronald Koeman’s team and is now a key part of the side. Dembele is happy in Barcelona and wants to continue at the club, although his camp have more doubts because they believe the financial offer will be below what they want.
While last summer Barça were open to letting him leave due to his injury problems, they now want him to stay following his development under Koeman.
Barça are aware that Dembele’s camp have an ace up their sleeve. The Blaugrana will try to seduce him with a progressive financial offer because the salary limit is tight for next season. It will have to be a contract that makes it clear they back him long-term.
So far, Dembele’s camp haven’t opened many doors, but Barça will press for a decision before the European Championships.
Manchester United, Chelsea and Juventus are interested in Dembele. In fact, Barça have always suspected that Juve will be key in his future.
If Dembele doesn’t renew and rejects Barça’s offers, they will have to sell him this summer. The alternative is he leaves for free in 2022. A lot of Barça’s planning for the new campaign depends on what he decides to do.
The footballers is happy, like the club, but he wants to sign a fitting contract.
