Planning has been approved for a new 276-bed hotel in the Titanic Quarter in Belfast.

The decision was made at the Belfast City Council planning committee on Thursday evening.

The project, in Hamilton Dock, next to the Titanic Belfast Visitor Center, will be the first in Northern Ireland for the developers of the JMK group.

They say construction should begin in the spring of 2020, with an opening date in the summer of 2021.

The hotel, located off Queen’s Road, will be the third to open in the Titanic Quarter.

A Premier Inn was partially built as part of the area’s early development phase and the Titanic Hotel boutique opened in 2017.

John Kajani, of the JMK group, said: “We are looking forward to presenting the chosen brand of the hotel in due course and to start building this new landmark for the Titanic Quarter.”
