Indie Game Below has finally received a somewhat surprising release date.

Developer Capybara (Super Force Time, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP) has shown that the long awaited dungeon crawler will be released on December 14th. On this day you can download the game for Xbox One and PC via Steam.

Below is described as a roguelike dungeon crawler with survival elements. In it you must enter a deep and dark cave, which is pursued by mysterious forces. While your passage is blocked by monsters and other horrors, the various traps in the halls of this forgotten cave of evil can be the biggest threat. In order to survive, not only do you have to carefully examine each step, but you also need to create the resources you need for another fight.

While Below is certainly a fascinating introduction to the roguelike dungeon crawler genre – and certainly one of the most stylistically impressive games of the year – the story of the game is only half the story of the game. In fact one of the most fascinating things Below is the long way it took to release.

Below was first introduced at the E3 2013 Microsoft press conference. Although it's one of the show's standout indie games, Below suffered several delays. It was even hinted that the game had received the dreaded "unlimited" day. While this is often the kiss of death for such a small title, BelowThe developers actually stuck to the game and helped it through to this upcoming release date.

The other thing to keep in mind Below It's been welcomed over the years by most people who had a chance to play it at various shows and private demos. In addition to the studio's reputation for releasing some truly impressive indie titles in the past, many people hope it does Below will be able to overcome the problems that led up to its release, and will prove to be one of the sleepers of the year.
