The Democratic presidential candidate, Beto O. Rourke, has reported a Texan legislator to the FBI after tweeting that his assault rifle "is ready for you".
The tweet of Republican lawmaker Briscoe Cain was removed by Twitter after the Democrat called it a "death threat."
Mr. Cain tweeted after Mr. O. Rourke called in a live televised debate Thursday night for a ban on semi-automatic rifles.
He declared his intention to confiscate certain types of firearms.
"Damn, yes, we'll take your AR-15," said O. Rourke, a former Texas Democratic congressman, during the debate in Houston.
In response, Mr. Cain, using Mr. O. Rourke's legal name, tweeted, "My AR is ready for you, Robert Francis."
AR stands for Armalite rifle.
Mr. O. Rourke replied, "This is a death threat, representative." Clearly, you should not own an AR-15 – and no one else should own one. "

Some Texas lawmakers have criticized Mr. Cain's tweet, which Twitter has removed, claiming it violates the "rules of threats of violence".
Mr. Cain, 34, then returned to Twitter, calling Mr. O. Rourke "a child".
A spokesman for Mr. O. Rourke said the Texas state legislator had been reported to the FBI.
In 2018, the police were called to remove Mr. Cain from the Democratic State Convention after he showed up with a gun and gun-friendly pamphlets, reported Fort Worth Star. -Telegram.
Mr. O. Rourke has made gun control one of the centerpieces of his White House campaign since 22 people were killed in a rampage on a Walmart in his hometown of ### 39, El Paso, Texas, last month.
