Blizzard has officially unveiled the BlizzCon schedule for 2021 and along with what fans can expect to see regarding Overwatch 2 during the February 19-20 event.
Overwatch 2 was first announced at BlizzCon 2019 and developers have since joined the sequel. All we know so far is that it will include a PvE story campaign, new game modes, maps, and of course, characters.
Although the release date seems highly unlikely, especially with the company basically claiming that the full release isn’t expected until 2022 at the earliest, the developers plan to share more information.
The show includes a “Behind the Scenes of Overwatch 2” special, which begins Friday, February 19 at 6:10 EST / 3:30 PST and lasts 40 minutes. The description reads: “The Overwatch team gives a brief behind-the-scenes look at Overwatch 2. Join them as they dive into the development process and share the work in progress.”
So for anyone waiting for news on the hero-shooter sequel, this is it. It’s unclear what exactly will be shown, but we do hope to see some of the upcoming characters and maps. Or even potentially a new PvE gameplay.
Another segment, called “The Voices of Overwatch”, will include the voice actors of the game and their experience, which brings to life the characters they play. He also notes that the segment will include watching “an iconic movie show from the Overwatch universe.”
It is not known if it will be a new or old movie or what exactly Blizzard is doing to make this iconic movie more intriguing, but we will have to wait and see.
Saturday’s BlizzCon will also feature the Shock vs The World special event, where the two-time Overwatch League champions will face off against other professionals or talents like Jeff Kaplan in a series of challenges.
At the end of the match, the league will reveal new details about the format of the 2021 season and the upcoming schedule.
In addition, there will be some segments related to the Workshop and crafts, but for many their eyes will be focused on any news about Overwatch 2, as expectations for the sequel continue to rise.
