With this shocking news, esports pioneer Starcraft 2 comes to an end. Blizzard has announced that development of new content for Starcraft 2 has come to an end a decade after its release.

The team explained through a blog post that paid content such as Commanders and War Chests will no longer be developed but that the team will continue to support the title and its competitive scene. The post specifies that the balance updates will continue to arrive. The last patch that arrived in August, will be the last one for 2020. The professional competitive scene which is between Blizzard, ESL and GSL, will continue to function normally.

It’s impossible to know what the future holds for such a popular franchise, but it’s good to see that Blizzard is looking to the future, and who knows, it could mean that a Starcraft 3 or something else entirely is being worked on.
