Porsche Panamera seems to have a narrow shoulder recently. Although it had a strong presence as a luxury sports saloon, it seems that the stock was stolen by the pure EV Taycan in recent years.
As the body size is close, the segment is the same even though it is a pure EV. Taycan, who is on the side of the strong tailwind of the current zero emission, has become a threat to Panamera.
Still, Porsche has Panamera as its flagship as an executive model. A small face lift was applied to the 971 series on the assumption that it will coexist with Taycan for the next few years.
The test drive this time was the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sports Turismo, the strongest and fastest Porsche plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Perhaps it can have a small impact on the new face of pure EV.
The gasoline engine installed in this turbo S E-hybrid is the most robust mass production unit of Porsche today. The 4.0L V8 engine is supercharged with two turbochargers, gaining 571ps, an increase of 20ps from before the facelift.
Combined with a 136ps electric motor, the total maximum output of the system reaches 700ps. The maximum torque of the entire system is as strong as 88.5kg-m.
0-100km / h acceleration is 3.2 seconds, which is 0.2 seconds shorter than before the face lift. It is said that the maximum speed will increase by about 5km / h and reach 315km / h.
If we talk about it today, we cannot miss the fact that the capacity of the drive battery has increased from 14.1kWh to 17.9kWh. The cruising range in EV mode is 49km, which is a number that can cover general daily usage conditions.
Beautiful interior design remains unchanged
Other changes are small. The adaptive damper and the active anti-roll system with a voltage of 48V have been improved, and the power steering characteristics have also been reset to reflect the findings of the 992 type 911 and Taycan.
In appearance, the front nose with a slightly aggressive sports design is standard. The processing around the lights is exclusively for the Turbo S E-Hybrid. The LED tail light is wide enough to connect the left and right sides of the body.
The infotainment system is the main change in the interior. The graphics on the monitor have become higher resolution, the ability of voice recognition has been enhanced, and Apple CarPlay has been able to connect wirelessly.
The interior of Panamera’s car was originally sophisticated and beautiful. Even if the design changes are small, you won’t feel any dissatisfaction.
The seating position has been lowered and the adjustment range of the seat and steering wheel has been expanded. It has become easier to find a more comfortable driving posture. The test drive was equipped with a GT steering wheel with a small diameter.
Like an E-hybrid, even the turbo S is basically silent when starting. If you choose E-power and hybrid mode, which will be in a pure EV state, you can start moving with just a 136ps electric motor.
The power of the electric motor is necessary and sufficient. It can reach the fast traffic flow without any problem and can accelerate up to 135km / h. The whisper-quiet and comfortable feeling is further enhanced by the impressively high-quality rolling feeling.
