Bruno Fernandes has uploaded a cryptic message to his story on Instagram as Manchester United continues to explore an agreement to sign the Portuguese international.
United sees Fernandes as an interesting addition in the mid-season, but is baffled by the 25-year-old’s 80 million euro valuation.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is running out of options in midfield after long-term injuries to Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba. United’s midfield in Liverpool’s defeat on Sunday was made up of Fred, Nemanja Matic and Andreas Pereira.
Fernandes himself had a defeat over the weekend as he started for Sporting in the 2-0 defeat against Benfica in the Primeira Liga.
Sports manager Silas said he is planning to have the Portuguese international join his team when they face Braga on Tuesday evening.
“I will prepare the game thinking about Bruno, from now on I don’t know what could happen,” said Silas. “He is a player who wants to play in a league higher than ours.
“Which player wouldn’t want to play in the English league? It’s hard to tell him ‘don’t go’.
“Bruno deserves to play in that type of league and the best is that. If he is one of the best he must be there.”
Taking pictures on Instagram on Sunday, Fernandes shared a photo of Simba of the Lion King along with the caption: “Be someone who nobody believed you were.”
Given how long the negotiations between United, Sporting and Fernandes are going on, it is unlikely that Fernandes will play against Burnley on Wednesday evening.
United must have registered Fernandes as a player by noon Tuesday if he wants his debut this week.
The transfer window closes at 23:00 on January 31st.
