Bruno Fernandes "will be standing for Liverpool vs Man Utd" as the transfer boards move closer

Bruno Fernandes could be in the stands for Manchester United’s visit to Liverpool on Sunday as talks continue on the transfer of the Sporting Lisbon captain.

United is moving to ensure the transfer of midfielder Fernandes at a cost of in principle £ 50 million which rises to £ 65 million.

Super agent Jorge Mendes was drafted to expedite a deal and was in the Old Trafford directors’ box for United’s 1-0 victory over the Wolves in Wednesday night’s FA Cup third round replay.

Sporting want to hold on to Fernandes at least until Friday, as they want him available for the Primeira Liga derby against Benfica’s biggest rival.

But according to the Portuguese publication A Bola, Fernandes could be in Anfield on Sunday while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tries to slow down Liverpool’s charge and bridge the five-point gap with the top four in the Premier League.

United is approaching the signing of Bruno Fernandes

Fernandes, who has scored eight goals and scored seven assists in 15 Primeira Liga games this season, will be a welcome addition to United’s midfield, particularly with Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay currently injured.

United is also targeting Atletico Madrid’s Marcos Llorente as a potential loan signature, according to Metro.

Solskjaer’s team may be without striker Marcus Rashford for Sunday’s trip to face their bitter rivals after appearing to suffer a back injury during Wednesday’s Wolves victory.

Rashford tried to play after receiving treatment but was struggling to run and ended up on the lawn again before limping into the tunnel.

The United Solskjaer chief later said: “What a failure but you have to go for them once in a while.

“Looks like he knocked there and he can’t run.

“We will test it in the next few days and see. Hopefully Sunday will be fine, but I don’t know.

“He’s been struggling with a couple of back shots lately. He took another and didn’t help.”

United’s victory over Wolves on Wednesday sparked an FA Cup clash for the fourth round of Thursday’s reward between Tranmere and Watford.
