Bryce Dallas Howard confirms the Mandalorian’s Apollo 13 nod

MADRID, 18 Nov. (CulturaOcio) –

The 2nd season of The Mandalorian is basing part of his visual narrative on little winks and tributes to great classics of science fiction. After the brief tribute to Alien in the scene of Baby Yoda and the ice spiders, now it’s the turn of Apolo 13, as confirmed by director Bryce Dallas Howard.

Episode 11 of The Mandalorian (2×03) begins with Mando, The Child and the frog woman who accompanied them on their previous adventure, trying to land on Trask’s harbor planet. After the damage suffered in the confrontation with the giant spiders, the Razor Crest have severe trouble making a smooth descent, and ends up hurtling through the atmosphere, engulfed in flames.

As a Twitter user has pointed out, and the director of The Mandalorian has confirmed, the succession of images in the sequence of the descent of the ship is practically traced to a similar one of Apolo 13, the space film classic he directed in 1995 Bryce Dallas Howard’s father, Ron Howard.

“Well seen! 100% correct“Dallas Howard wrote in response to the fan’s tweet, which claimed in the message that “from such father, such daughter”. A nice tribute to the iconic work of its predecessor who, curiously, is no stranger to the Star Wars universe, as he also directed Han Solo’s solo film starring Alden Ehrenreich.

The Mandalorian Season 2 premieres every Friday through December 18 on Disney +.
