RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) Burr & Burton had to lick their wounds after home defeat by St. Johnsbury in early October as the Bulldogs dropped out of the ranks of the unbeaten. But BBA returned to the track, and on Saturday night at Rutland High School they avenged this defeat by taking the # 47; Toppers 47-20 title in their first D1 season.

For a long time, the Bulldogs were a D2-level power and captured two crowns in five consecutive seasons as the division's best seed. The last trophy came just a season ago. But with the win on Saturday followed the Bulldogs as the first program a D2 title, which was awarded the following year with the highest price of the state.

Burr & Burton made it 13-0 after a long touchdown pass from Joey McCoy to Logan Morgan and John Morgantini. McCoy was responsible for two more points in two minutes, so BBA could build a cushion that the # Toppers could never cut.

"Oh my gosh, it was just amazing," McCoy said after the game. "I mean, rising to D1, not knowing how we're going to play, not knowing what teams are like … just coming out here and winning everything and bringing it home is really amazing."
