Catskills, Berkshires, Adirondacks see a spike in searches

ALBANY – The journey is slowly returning, and Airbnb says that people in the Capital Region are probably trying to escape to a rural retreat this weekend on July 4th.

Many travelers, it seems, are eager to get away from the city and to the mountains.

Ad searches in the Hudson Valley, Catskills and Berkshires increased 30 percent over this period last year, while Adirondack listings increased 40 percent, according to data released by the company this week. Rural destinations account for about 20 percent of holiday weekend bookings.

Airbnb guests are also looking for places with swimming pools and pets allowed. Booths are among the main search terms on the website.

Airbnb says hosts are now encouraged to follow an advanced cleaning protocol. Hosts who cannot engage in advanced cleaning procedures must extend the time between each booking to 72 hours to allow for property cleaning.
