Chelsea team up with the Refuge to help people at risk of Chelsea home abuse

Chelsea

Chelsea have teamed up with the charity shelter for domestic abuse to help people forced to isolate themselves in vulnerable situations due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Experts have warned that the coronavirus crisis will lead to “a domestic abuse pandemic”, with self-isolation potentially exacerbating existing abusive behavior, and women are at risk of finding it more difficult to report abuse and seek support. Chelsea Women manager Emma Hayes and male and female players are taking part in a digital campaign to raise awareness and finance the charity, with the Premier League club promising to match all the donations received in the next six weeks.

“I am proud to lead the club’s support for this worthy cause at such a difficult time for so many,” said Hayes. “There are many things that people face in the current climate, but it is important to support the vulnerable and those who can feel alone or voiceless. I hope this campaign can do it and make a difference for those who need support. “

César Azpilicueta, the captain of the Chelsea men’s team, said: “Domestic violence is such a serious problem in society and we must redouble our efforts to take care of those who are in danger during this ongoing pandemic. I am so proud of the my club for supporting the Refuge in their vital work to protect vulnerable women and children. “

Chelsea have played an active role in the community since the outbreak of the coronavirus. They opened the Millennium Hotel on the Stamford Bridge stadium site to NHS staff working in London hospitals and their players donated money to help the Chelsea Foundation help those in need during the crisis.
