Chinese and Russian vaccines against COVID-19 en route to Mexico

Mexico will receive its first shipment of Chinese Coronavac vaccine on Saturday, and by Monday it will receive its first batch of Sputnik V, from Russia, authorities said. Each batch will be about 200,000 doses.

These vaccines will be used in low-income neighborhoods in Mexico City or its suburbs, health officials said.

Mexico is currently using the Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines, of which it has applied almost 1.6 million doses.

Now the country faces the logistical challenge of handling four different inoculations, all of two doses. Also, the first dose of Sputnik V is different from the second, and is not interchangeable.
