Chris Sutton has taken Chelsea fourth place in the Premier League after Liverpool, Manchester City and Leicester City.

The Blues have lost their last two league games but are still in fourth place, five points above fifth place at Crystal Palace, before coming to a confrontation with Aston Villa tonight.

Chelsea finished third under Maurizio Sarri last season, but was beaten this year by the club's continued transfer ban.

Blues legend Lampard is doing well at Stamford Bridge, and Sutton insists Chelsea finish fourth and automatically qualify for the Champions League.

Sutton spoke at Bonus Code Bet's "VAR-DICT" event Metro.co.uk: "I would not have predicted this table at the beginning of the season."

"I think I said City, Liverpool, Spurs – they were certainly there at the beginning of the season – and I think my fourth was Arsenal.

"I would look at this moment now: Liverpool, Man City … I would say Leicester – if Jamie Vardy gets hurt, that will be a big problem for her – and the last one I would say to Chelsea."

When asked why he believes that Chelsea will finish ahead of Jose Mourinho's Tottenham, Sutton added, "I think we just got the whole mood with Mourinho.

"I know that everyone is very excited, but Bournemouth, Olympiacos, West Ham … these are all smiles and high-fives and back pain and this, this and that, let us see where they are after a few months . "

"I was sorry [Mauricio] Pochettino really. Five years of hard work, really progress in the squad, four top-4 finishes in those five years, I think two in 24 before that time.

"Blimey, Champions League final and then a bit off, and you lose your job. I thought that was hard. "

New Spurs boss Mourinho returns to his former club Manchester United on Wednesday night.
