Clifford Chance is changing its legal form

Clifford Chance Germany previously operated as a Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) under English law with its administrative headquarters in Germany. However, when Great Britain left the EU and the transition period had expired, the law firm had to change its legal form.

“Unfortunately, the legislator has not made use of the opportunity to grant us and many other law firms based in Germany the right to continue to exist until a German or European legal form comparable to the LLP is available,” said Dr. Peter Dieners, Managing Partner of Clifford Chance in Germany.

At the turn of the year Noerr, previously also organized as an LLP under English law, had become a partnership with limited professional liability (Part mbB). A number of other law firms had taken this step before.
