BOGOTÁ (AP) – América de Cali confirmed six positive cases of coronavirus in its ranks on Wednesday, with its Argentine coach Juan Cruz Real among those affected.
The Colombian club’s doctor, Germán Alberto Ochoa, said that there are no infected players.
Ochoa identified the physical trainer Christian Juliao as another infected.
“Professors Cruz Real and Juliao fulfill the mandatory confinement time and PCR tests will be taken between Friday and Saturday, hoping that they will join us on Sunday (in the match against Atlético Nacional),” said Ochoa. Both are asymptomatic and will miss Thursday’s match against Santa Fe de Bogotá for the Colombian league.
The club did not specify the identity of the others infected “by the legal reserve of the medical history.”
Cruz Real suffered gastroenteritis at the beginning of the month and was held in a clinic.
The positives were registered among 50 tests carried out on members of the coaching staff, soccer players and people close to the Colombian champion, after the 2-1 victory against the local Chicó de Tunja last Friday. Cruz Real did not attend the press conference after this commitment.
The 44-year-old coach led América de Cali to victory over Santa Fe in the final of the Apertura tournament of the 2020 season.
