GLEN ROCK, NJ – Community Meals Inc. (CMI) also known as Community Meals on Wheels is a private, non-profit meal on wheels program serving Allendale, Glen Rock, Ho-Ho-Kus, Midland Park, Ridgewood, Waldwick and part of Saddle River.
Each year in the late fall, Community Meals Inc. volunteers purchase foods that cannot be stored on the shelves, fill the grocery bags with the treats, and deliver the “blizzard bags” to all of our customers. We call them “blizzard bags” because the idea is to make sure our customers have some extra food on hand, in case we can’t go out to deliver food for one or more days due to inclement weather.
Member of the CMI Executive Board Mindy Frangulova coordinated this year’s effort, saying, “We always had a good time putting together the blizzard bags, but it was especially nice this year to see some of our committee members in person, as all of our board meetings since April have been in Zoom ”.
This year, our blizzard bags are fuller than usual, thanks to generous donations of non-perishable food in late spring, when we were collecting non-perishable food for our customers in the early days of the pandemic. We had a great response to our old record at the time! We were able to store some of the donations to add to our blizzard bags this fall.
Most recently, CMI Blizzard Bag committee members: Jack Egan, Donna Nihen, Margaret Fisk, Eileen Hillock, Alison Kelly, Peggy Vandervoort, and Mindy Frangulova They dropped off their purchases at Community Church in Glen Rock and collected 75 blizzard bags that will be delivered to our customers this week, just in time for the cold weather.
