Covid-19 in Brittany: in one month, the Breton incidence rate increases by 89.9%

The number of contaminations continues to grow in Brittany according to the health report on Wednesday 7 avril 2021. The Brittany region counts 2,890 additional positive cases to Covid-19 over the past 5 days.

The incidence rate is rising sharply

“The incidence rate now stands at 207 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (+7.5 points in five days) at the regional level with a positivity rate of 5.2%, ”specifies the Brittany Regional Health Agency (ARS).

L’Ille-et-Vilaine has the highest incidence rate with 308 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (+23.8 points in five days) then the Morbihan (213,2 per 100,000; +11), Côtes-d’Armor (195,1 per 100,000; -14.2) and far behind the Finistère (89 per 100,000; -0.6).

“All the indicators show a deterioration in health data. They confirm the trends observed in recent weeks: in one month, the Breton incidence rate has increased by 89.9%”.

Slight increase in hospitalizations

The care of Covid-19 patients remains high in Breton hospitals:

  • 785 hospitalizations in progress (+10 in 5 days), of which 116 (+2 in 5 days) in service of intensive care.
  • Since the start of the epidemic: 5,923 hospitalized patients returned to their home (+168 in 5 days); 1,364 patients died.

Brittany must deplore 36 new deaths from Covid-19 in the past five days.

1) With Easter Monday, ARS Bretagne did not communicate the health report. The figures for April 7, 2021 day are compared to Friday April 2, 2021, or for five days.
2) The incidence rate represents the number of new cases of COVID-19 diagnosed by a PCR test occurring during the last 7 days compared to the number of inhabitants of the department. The unit adopted is per 100,000 inhabitants.
3) The positivity rate represents the number of positive cases for Covid (PCR test) compared to the number of people tested, over 7 days.

Brittany counts 136 (+9 in five days) epidemic outbreaks (or clusters). Here is the data by department:

  • 35 in Côtes d’Armor (4 in a professional environment, 1 in a nursery, 10 in a school and university environment, 2 in a health establishment, 8 in an establishment for disabled people, 4 in EHPAD and 6 in the private sphere);
  • 15 in the Finistère (3 in a professional environment, 4 in a school and university environment, 3 in a health establishment and 5 in the private sphere);
  • 55 in Ille-et-Vilaine (10 in a professional environment, 2 in a nursery, 14 in a school and university environment, 8 in a health establishment, 1 in an establishment for disabled people, 6 in EHPAD and 14 in the private sphere);
  • 31 in the Morbihan (10 in a professional environment, 8 in a school and university environment, 3 in a health establishment, 1 in an establishment for disabled people, 4 in EHPAD and 5 in the private sphere).

Vaccination continues on the territory:

  • 155,596 in Côtes d’Armor (including 40,539 for the second injection)
  • 193,506 in the Finistère (including 50,496 for the second injection)
  • 191 091 in Ille-et-Vilaine (including 49,584 for the second injection)
  • 158,448 in the Morbihan (including 42,490 for the second injection)

At Tuesday, April 6, 2021, 698,641 vaccinations were performed (including 183,109 for the 2nd injection).
