Croatia records another record of covid-19 infections

Zagreb, Nov 21 (EFE) .- Croatia today registered another 3,573 cases of contagion of covid-19, which represents a new daily record, although the death toll, 47 deaths in the last 24 hours, has dropped compared to yesterday, according to official data published on the government website.
The Balkan country of 4.5 million people has 1,981 hospitalized covid patients, 213 of them on assisted ventilation.
Today and tomorrow, new measures against the spread of the epidemic come into force, such as the closure of cafes, night bars, casinos and similar venues at 10 p.m.
In addition, the number of people who can meet in public places is reduced from 50 to 25, but these are changes that many experts have described as cosmetics.
A renowned Croatian scientist, molecular biologist Ivan Djikic, today accused the government of manipulating the data, for example by conducting insufficient tests, and noted as very disturbing that the death toll reached a record 57 people yesterday.
“Unfortunately, these measures will not contribute to reducing the number of infected and dead. They have been adopted in an improvised way, based on false figures and with delay,” he assessed.
In neighboring Slovenia, where since the last week of October a night curfew and a ban on moving outside the municipality of residence have been in force, 1,690 infected and 31 deaths have been registered in the last 24 hours.
The country of two million people has 1,219 hospitalized covid-19 patients, with 197 in intensive care.
