Will Ray Park play the famous (former) Sith Lord Darth Maul again in the upcoming “Star Wars” series “Obi-Wan Kenobi”? A picture on Instagram seems to suggest exactly that – or is Park promising a whole series about Maul? We clarify.
With “Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi”, Lucasfilm will close the gap between “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” and “Star Wars: A New Hope” – at least with regard to the title character who played this time (the series plays ten Years after “Star Wars 3”) mainly but not only on Tatooine.
It is also already known that in addition to Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan, Hayden Christensen will also be there, who will again play Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader – but this may not be the only (former) Sith Lord to appear in the series.
A picture that Darth Maul actor Ray Park recently shared on Instagram is causing wild speculation that Maul could also be in “Star Wars: Obi-Wan”. Because the shooting of the Kenobi series should start in March 2021 and the picture seems to show Park at a kind of mask rehearsal:
In the picture we see the unmistakable splendor of horns that Maul wears as a Dathomirian Zabrak, even if (still) without the distinctive black and red tattoos that most fans probably associate with the figure as well as the red double laser sword.
Park also marked the post with the location “Tatooine” and also wrote “Meet me on Dathomir”, that is, “Meet me (or meet me) at Dathomir”.
Maul vs. Kenobi – or is it a solo series?
It is absolutely possible that Maul, who at this point has already dropped the title Darth, appears in the Obi-Wan series. The series “Star Wars Rebels” has already shown a new duel between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Maul on Tatooine, which could possibly be reissued for the real series and embellished with further details.
The second season “The Mandalorian” in particular showed that guest appearances by well-known and popular characters in the “Star Wars” series on Disney + can be very effectively woven into the plot – from Ahsoka Tano to Boba Fett to Luke Skywalker personally.
In view of the post, we are almost more likely to believe that Ray Park intends to suggest a Darth Maul series with his post – if there is anything behind it at all. After all, it was no coincidence that he provided the post with the hashtag #Solo, which can be understood both as a “solo series” and as a reference to “Solo: A Star Wars Story”.
At the end of “Solo” Park also appeared as Maul, who at that time had risen to become the boss of the criminal organization Crimson Dawn on his home planet Dathomir. And he orders his subordinate Qi’ra (Emilia Clarke) to Dathomir with very similar words as Park uses in his post.
Perhaps this scene from “Solo: A Star Wars Story” would be linked in a Darth Maul series – or Park just posted a picture of the shooting of “Solo” and all speculation is in vain …
