Dean Henderson will have no scruples to face David de Gea for the jersey n. Manchester United’s 1 next season, according to the man who signed him at Old Trafford.
English goalkeeper Henderson was in excellent shape during his second season on loan at Sheffield United, helping the Blades enjoy a magnificent campaign that could see them end up in European places when the season resumes.
It has been suggested that the 23-year-old could replace Jordan Pickford as No. 1 of England, but to do so he will have to continue playing regular football next season, both at Old Trafford and elsewhere.
And the former Red Devils goalkeeper coach Eric Steele thinks the ex-young Carlisle has what it takes to usurp De Gea and will believe he can do it.
“Knowing Dean Henderson like me, he will expect to walk into that Old Trafford dressing room and make his number 1 shirt his own now,” Steele told I.
“I signed him at 14 and was close to him – he has an exceptional attitude. David would have known that there would always be a young suitor who came to challenge him and that’s what Dean will do.
“It won’t scare David. You don’t get to where David de Gea is today without overcoming obstacles. “
Steele added that the competition for first place could be positive for the club.
“When United returns to the Champions League, you can have a season of 65 games. Nobody can play every game, “he said.
“If the contracts allow it, United must tell them [Henderson] ‘You don’t go out on loan, you’re here to compete with David.’ He will enhance the experience at Sheffield United: he is now better prepared to face this challenge.
“United is in such a strong position. David will appreciate the challenge and come back stronger. “
