The Derry Girls fans wept before the second final of the series on Tuesday, after the very vicious James Maguire decided to stay in Ireland when he was finally accepted by his female friends.
In emotional scenes, the English teenager was reunited with his mother Cathy, who wanted to bring him back to London, but decided at the last minute to stay in Derry, prompting the girls to abandon their plans to see Bill Clinton's presidential presidency.
Fans of the acclaimed Channel 4 comedy, played during the Troubles of the 1990s, had much to celebrate, as it was confirmed in the credits of the show that they would come back next year for a third series.

The finale began with the girls in a round as they eagerly awaited Bill Clinton's visit to Derry – a historic moment when the peace talks began after the ceasefire.
James, however, was astonished to find out that his mother Cathy had returned to Ireland after he left to live with cousin Michelle at the start of the series One.
At first, the girls were more concerned about meeting President Chelsea's daughter and huddled forward to make sure they had a perfect view.

While the girls were sadly waiting to see the President, they were shocked to watch James from a nearby roof while shouting, "I'm a Derry girl."

And while the finale was received overwhelmingly by the fans, some noticed their disappointment that James and Erin were not following a romance at the end of the episode.
The pair sent the fans into a tailspin last week after James surprised Erin when she took her to the prom after she got up.

But despite the face that James and Erin seem to be just friends, the writer Lisa McGee has all confirmed, but the couple could pair the next series.
She said in the Radio Times: "I think it could be [a romance], I've always thought James likes her, but I think he may not yet understand it, and I do not know when that is. It can happen when they are a lot older, so it can not really happen to our show
"But I think the potential is there, it's something I'm interested in – I could play with it when we play another season, I'm not sure."
Derry Girls is expected to return to Channel 4 in 2020.
