A man may have suffered life-altering injuries on Friday after a "brutal, malicious attack" in East Belfast, police said.

Detectives are calling for witnesses to report a heavy burglary in a Gibson Park Gardens home at around 20:30 GMT.

Two men allegedly attacked the victim with a pistol before attaching cable ties to his wrists.

He suffered several facial injuries and "lost a lot of blood".

The victim escaped from the crime scene when the men were still in the house and were subsequently hospitalized.

The men left the house with some items and some money.

Det Sgt Corrigan said, "One of the attackers is described as 6 feet tall, has a shaved head and wears a hi-vis coat, the other was slightly taller and had short ginger hair.

"This was a brutal, malicious attack that could leave the victim with life-changing injuries.

"I would appeal to anyone in the area at the time who saw two men who were suspicious of getting in touch with detectives."
