Rowers from the Isle of Ely Rowing Club won medals at the British Indoor Rowing Championships, which took place earlier this month at London's Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
The attention of the national media focused on Sir Bradley Wiggins, who finished 21st in the Men's Sprint 2000m sprint, his debut-rowing race. Meanwhile, Ely Ruderer (with slightly more rowing experience than Sir Bradley) gave performances that one could be proud of.
Ely Junior Seren Palmer, who won medals last year at the British Championships, won bronze in the 500-meter U-14 class and finished fourth in the 4-minute race.
In the women's 2000-meter race, Jill McCulloch put up a strong resistance and finished fifth in her age group. She achieved a personal best, beating international club rowers.
Ely was also brilliantly represented by rowers from the World Class Start program. Imogen Magner won gold in the women's 2000-meter run under the age of 23, while Jessica Day won silver at the women's open race.
The Ely women's team also finished the 4-km relay in the top-10.
