The European heads of state and government – including Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) – will hold a video summit on Thursday evening to exchange ideas about the current corona situation in the EU. At the virtual meeting, the German Council Presidency will also inform EU leaders about the state of affairs regarding the EUR 1.8 trillion EU corona reconstruction plan blocked by Hungary and Poland.
With their vetoes, the two countries oppose the rule of law. Formally, the topic is not on the agenda, so an agreement is not expected on Thursday evening, according to Council circles in Brussels on Wednesday. Terrorism, Brexit and climate change are also to be addressed at the video summit.
