Chicago (IL), Feb 22 (EFE News) .- Children make up a small percentage of total deaths from covid-19 in the United States, but three-quarters of minors who have died from the disease in the Until now they belonged to communities of color, reveals a study. According to a joint report from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children’s Hospital Association, 241 minors have died from the coronavirus as of February 11. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that 75% of child deaths from COVID-19 were children of color. The CDC study examined 121 child deaths between February and July 2020 and found that 45% were Hispanic, 29% African American, and 4% were non-Hispanic American Indian or Alaska Native. The death rate for children of color is higher than for adults of color compared to white adults. Adults of color are more than twice as likely to die from the coronavirus. Official data indicate that, while with adults, underlying conditions such as asthma, obesity and heart disease are a risk factor for serious illness among minors. In the United States, more than three million cases of covid-19 have been registered among children, which represents around 13% of the total.
