FEMA will help with funeral expenses for deaths from Covid-19

Starting Monday, FEMA is expected to launch a program that will help qualifying families with funeral expenses.

This includes reimbursements of up to $ 9,000 to households with multiple deaths related to this pandemic.

Pursuant to the Coronavirus Relief and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 and the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, FEMA will provide financial assistance for COVID-19-related funeral expenses incurred after January 20, 2020.

They indicate that they are working with stakeholder groups to obtain their input on the best ways to provide this assistance, and to enlist their help in providing community services to families and communities. FEMA will begin implementing COVID-19 funeral assistance in April.

Additional guidance is being finalized and will be released to potential applicants and community partners as soon as possible. In the meantime, people with COVID-19 funeral expenses are encouraged to keep and collect documentation.
