Firefighters were called to a North Staffordshire pub after a tree went up in flames.
Members of the public warned emergency services after smoke was seen floating in the sky
A mature conifer behind Waggon and Horses and a petrol station in Higherland, Newcastle were engulfed in flames.
It is not yet known how the tree was set on fire.
An eyewitness said: “I could see the fire behind the gas station when I passed by. It’s strange enough that the tree usually doesn’t just catch fire.”
A spokesman for the Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 4.17pm to a conifer behind the Waggon and Horses pub which was well lit.
“The crews used a hose reel to put out the flames before leaving the scene shortly after 4:40 pm.”
