West Ham suffered more than expected to certify their qualification for the round of 32 of the English Cup, beating Stockport County 1-0, a team in the fifth category of English football, with a header from defender Craig Dawson with seven minutes to go.
Neither the difference in category between the two teams, nor the powerful team that David Moyes first lined up, prevented West Ham from suffering.
In fact, the modest Stockport, which had Wayne Rooney’s brother in its ranks, endured the onslaught of the hammers until the final minutes.
Although he finally could not avoid Dawson’s goal that sealed West Ham’s pass for the fourth round of the English Cup in the 83rd minute, in which the London team will face Doncaster Rovers, a team from the Third Division.
