Flight attendants spend most of their life in flight and therefore if there is something that passengers need to know about the flight, the cabin crew is the person asking. Planes aren’t known to be the most hygienic places, but recent research suggests that drinking this drink on board could make you seriously ill.
He wrote: “The water on planes is absolutely disgusting, the tanker from which the water comes is literally never cleaned.”
Derry also explained that this includes tea and coffee and this should be picked up in the airport terminal if travelers want a hot drink.
He continued: “If you insist on drinking water, ask for bottled water, we will be happy to help you.
“Skip the coffee on the plane, take it when you arrive, trust me.”
An Environmental Protection Agency study found that one in eight aircraft does not meet water safety standards and that 12% of commercial aircraft in the United States tested positive for high levels of bacteria in tap water supply .
The cabin crew is never informed of the frequency with which the water tanks are cleaned and it can be assumed that it is not very often, especially when flight attendants have revealed the frequency with which the planes are actually cleaned.
A flight attendant revealed that the seat belt buckles are hardly ever swept away and only in the big deep cleaning would they do it.
During a quick cleaning between flights, the cabin crew will often focus on food particles and food wraps that have been left behind rather than disinfecting areas that may be full of germs.
When traveling, it is always recommended to carry hand sanitizer and antibacterial wipes so that you can clean the area before settling in for the flight.
