Friday Night Dinner actress Frances Cuka is dead

Frances Cuka, known for playing “nice grandma”, Nelly Buller on the Channel 4 sitcom Friday evening dinner, died at 83 years old.

The British actress died on February 16, 2020, she reports The Guardian. The cause of death was not specified, but had previously suffered a stroke and was diagnosed with cancer.

Cuka started on stage with the visionary director Joan Littlewood in Stratford East and George Devine at the Royal Court, played by Shelagh Delaney A taste of honey (1958) and John Arden Live like pigs (1958).

Robert Popper, creator of Friday evening dinner, opened the way with tributes, writing: “Terribly sad that our wonderful grandmother of the Friday night dinner, Frances Cuka, has passed away.”

Sanjeev Bhaskar wrote: “Sad to hear of the disappearance of #FrancesCuka always such a welcome, warm and hilarious presence in # Fridaynightdinner # ripnicegrandma”

“I can’t believe #FrancesCuka is absolutely dead and loved like Nelly in #FridayNightDinner,” wrote a fan.

Another added: “So I just found out that the actor who plays the nelly part in #FridayNightDinner disappeared thank God, God bless his soul, it was incredible in the program.”

“OMG I’m so sad to hear that #francescuka died @robertpopper. He was the best character of the Friday night dinner. #Fridaynightdinner will always be remembered,” said a third.
