Fans of Sir Elton John attacked the legendary singer after discovering that they are not entitled to any refund after his concert was stopped due to illness.
The 72-year-old pop icon lost her voice in the middle of her set at Auckland’s Mount Smart Stadium on Sunday.
“I just lost my voice completely. I can’t sing,” said Sir Elton to the crowd.
“I have to go. I’m sorry,” he said before leaving the stage.
Singer Tiny Dancer seemed to burst into tears as he leaned over his piano and shook his head in annoyance.
And now the frustrated viewers who watched the long-awaited show have been left “cheated” and “disappointed” after the show ended earlier than expected.
Ticketmaster and Chugg Entertainment, the promoters who brought Sir Elton to New Zealand, have confirmed that there will be no refunds for disappointed fans.
Michael Chugg of Chugg Entertainment told Newstalk New Zealand that the singer has been playing for more than two hours, so there will be no refunds offered.
The organizers insist that Sir Elton will return with a bang for his upcoming concerts in Auckland, which will certainly go ahead, despite having to stop yesterday evening’s performance.
“He is resting today and doctors are sure he will recover,” said a statement released through a publicist this morning.
Annoyed by the latest update, fans turned to Twitter to share their complaints about the unfortunate situation.
“I understand that poor Elton was sick, and it’s not his fault. But ticket organizations should consider what happened and that thousands of people paid a lot of money for tonight,” wrote a frustrated fan.
While another wrote: “I can’t help feeling cheated and disappointed in knowing that fans will have a good show tomorrow night. Nothing against Elton, I love it but we should get some money!”.
Others remain hopeful that he will be able to perform until the end of his next two shows.
“I am absolutely convinced that if Elton is unable to perform, he will call to pull the plug. He is a true professional who will not give anything but 100%.”
Despite their disappointment at the time, the loyal audience still gave the singer a huge ovation as he carefully walked off the stage, aided by his assistants.
A downcast Sir Elton previously told the crowd that he had been diagnosed with pneumonia on foot the same day.
Later that night, the pop sensation apologized to his fans on Instagram as he explained that he was ‘deeply troubled’ by his voice and that he was unable to finish the show.
He wrote: “I played and sang the heart, until my voice could no longer sing.”
“I am disappointed, deeply troubled and sorry. I gave everything I had.”
“Thank you so much for your extraordinary support and all the love you showed me during tonight’s performance. I am eternally grateful. Love, Elton xx.”
The concert was part of Sir Elton’s epic Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, which will be the last journey of singer Rocketman worldwide.
