BERLIN (AP) – German senior center staff and residents “will have priority” to receive the coronavirus vaccine when it becomes available, Chancellor Angela Merkel said in her weekly address Saturday.
Almost one million people live in nursing homes and nursing homes in the country. Germany is trying to buy 100 million doses of the vaccine developed by the German pharmaceutical company BioNTech with its US partner Pfizer.
The Robert Koch Institute, the German center for disease control, confirmed 22,461 new cases of COVID-19 and 178 deaths in the last 24 hours on Saturday. Since the start of the pandemic, Germany has registered 773,556 positives for the virus and 12,378 deaths.
