Gloucestershire supermarket “raided” by a man carrying “imitation of firearms”

A Gloucestershire supermarket was subjected to an attempted robbery this afternoon.

Gloucestershire Constabulary officers were called to a cooperative shop in Cinderford after receiving news of a man in possession of a firearm imitation.

A man in his fifties was arrested and an air pistol was later recovered.

A spokesman for the Constabulary of Gloucestershire said: “A man was arrested following an attempted robbery in Cinderford this afternoon on Thursday 2 January.

“The man was arrested shortly after 4:30 p.m. at the Dockham Street co-op shop, where he was reportedly in possession of a firearm imitation.

“The agents recovered an air pistol from the scene.

“The man, who is in his fifties, is now in police custody.

“Nobody was hurt and nothing was stolen.”
