Graeme Souness has criticized Fabinho for his performance against N'Golo edge during Liverpool's Super Cup victory over Chelse.

Fabianho, who covered 14km during his 120 minutes on the pitch against Chelsea, starts in a midfield trio with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner.

But they were all outshone by Edge, who delivered a brilliant performance at the heart of Chelsea midfield in his first start since recovering from injury.

And Souness believes Liverpool were 'second best' during their Super Cup clash.

'This guy [Fabinho], twice he had edge dance past him as if he had Jacques Cousteau boots, lead boots on, 'Souness told Virgin Media Sport Ireland.

Liverpool, I'm not seeing a Liverpool that resembles the Liverpool we saw last season.

'I'm amazed Liverpool were more tired than Chelsea, they've had two extra days to rest.

'I was disappointed with Liverpool tonight, I expected them to be lively, energetic and win comfortably, even by two or three goals.

'In reality I thought they were second best for the greatest part, I thought Chelsea played better football, more energy.

'Given Chelsea played Sunday and Liverpool played Friday.
