A NIGHTCLUB bouncer nicknamed the Hollywood Ripper was convicted of stabbing to death the ex-girlfriend of Ashton Kutcher and a mother of four after studying Ted Bundy.
Michael Gargiulo, 43, was convicted of the murder of 22-year-old Ashley Ellerin, and 32-year-old Maria Bruno, and attempted murder of Michelle Murphy, 26, in the Los Angeles area in 2001. and 2008.
The court heard that the twisted killer "enjoyed plunging a knife again and again into his victims, letting them die and be found by their loved ones".
Gargiulo now risks the death penalty if it is proven that he was healthy in spirit at the time of his murderous crimes.
The jury deliberated for three days before rendering its verdict in a trial before nearly 100 experts and witnesses, including Hollywood star Kutcher.
The former star of Two And A Half Men, aged 41, testified in tears during the three-month trial during which he recalled being "late" to recover it.
Kutcher told the jurors how he arrived at the Hollywood bungalow of fashion design student Ashley on the night of February 22, 2001.
But when he arrived late, Kutcher, then 21, said that he had found the lights on and the door locked.
Looking through the window, he saw "what I thought was a red wine spilled on the carpet."
Kutcher, hurt, added, "I really did not think about it," adding that he "thought I had messed up" and that Ashley had gone out with a friend.
His girlfriend had actually been stabbed 47 times during a frenzied attack while she was in the shower – her brutalized body having been found by a roommate the next day.
A coroner later revealed that she had wounds ranging up to six inches deep on the chest, belly, neck, and back.
Prosecutors recounted how Gargiulo, a crooked man, had "injected" into Ashley 's life after helping him change a car tire.
The neighbors reported seeing Gargiulo parked in front of his house looking at his windows.
Gargiulo was also found guilty of the murder of Maria Bruno in 2005 at his home in El Monte and the attempted murder of Michelle Murphy in 2008 in his apartment in Santa Monica.
Murphy repelled his attacker and forced him to cut himself off and leave a trail of blood – causing the chain of events that eventually led to his arrest.
During the murder trial, morbid details about the calculated murderer investigated serial killers like Ted Bundy and even read a book about killing people.
In his explosive closing remarks during his murder trial, Gargiulo was described as a sick disciple of the famous serial killer.
Deputy Attorney General Garrett Dameron said: "He investigated other serial killers, like Bundy, who told people he knew how to leave no fingerprints.
"He knew how to avoid getting out of a crime scene covered with blood and a bloody knife.
Sady Bundy was at the origin of the most heartbreaking crimes in the United States in which at least 30 women were murdered across the country in the 1970s.
Gargiulo has also learned to control his lusts with terribly effective attacks by following the instructions of a notorious guide, the DA added.
Mr. Dameron told the jurors: "The anarchist cookbook explains how to hold a knife, kill with a knife … how to cause death in a few seconds".
Gargiulo has also been linked since the murder of a third woman.
