Says the brand:
“The events of the past year have caused many people, of course our clients, to re-evaluate their sense and relationship with Time. At a time in history when many things in life seem fleeting, our customers seek comfort in the unique timelessness, longevity and permanence that a Rolls-Royce automobile offers.
So it’s the perfect time for the Phantom Tempus Collection, a magnificent incarnation of our pinnacle product, inspired by a mysterious celestial phenomenon and Time, which Albert Einstein, one of the greatest minds in human history, defined as a persistent illusion.
As we all know, time never stops, it doesn’t wait for anyone. So we handle it, save it, count it, weigh it, and measure it down to its smallest fraction. With Phantom Tempus, we’ve created a space where those restrictions no longer apply, as illustrated by the deliberate absence of a watch. Rolls-Royce customers are not tied to time; the outside world with all its pressures and demands is forgotten.
Phantom Tempus is a car for those who shape the world as they seek their own place in the universe. They understand that whatever our individual gifts, talents and opportunities, we are all given time, and it is up to us to make the most of every moment. “
Rolls-Royce Phantom, the brand’s flagship product, residing at the pinnacle of the world of luxury, has today become the subject of an exclusive and rare collection, the Phantom Tempus Collection. This fascinating new iteration of Phantom is inspired by time – how it passes and how you can make it look like it stops. The collection is strictly limited to just 20 units, all of which have already been assigned to clients.
The design of the Phantom Tempus Collection encompasses various aesthetic and intellectual themes related to time and the cosmos. A key component is a rare astronomical phenomenon, the pulsar, unknown until 1967 and found only in the deepest reaches of space (the closest discovered so far is 280 light-years, or 1.68 billion miles from Earth). These very dense and hot stars emit electromagnetic radiation in extremely regular pulses, making them some of the most accurate clocks in the universe.
In Phantom Tempus, this remarkable force of nature is rendered as a centerpiece in a custom Starlight Headliner consisting of fiber optic lighting and intricate custom embroidery, creating the unique and beautiful Headliner Pulsar.
Another aspect of time, the illusion of being immobile, is captured in the gallery “Frozen Flow of Time”. This unique work of art is located on the fascia from which the watch is deliberately omitted to signify the freedom of time users and their limitations. A single billet of aluminum is ground to form 100 individually contoured columns, representing the 100-million-year period of one rotational spin of a pulsar star. Each column is black anodized and hand polished to reflect light. As the eye travels over it, the entire structure, although completely solid, appears to undulate and flex.
A description of the Gallery can be found on an engraved plaque in the glove compartment, along with a quote from Albert Einstein, “The distinction between past, present, and future is just a stubbornly persistent illusion.”
A twisting and twisting star pattern is featured on the inside of the doors. Created by hundreds of illuminated perforations, the additional perforations in contrasting leather add greater depth and detail to the effect, providing an atmospheric aura even when not illuminated.
The exterior of the Phantom Tempus collection is featured in a new Bespoke paint finish, Kairos Blue, created to embody the darkness and mystery of space. The painting incorporates jewel-shaped flakes of blue mica, which sparkle and sparkle as they catch the light, representing the stars. This effect is highlighted by black exterior details.
Adorning the hood of the Phantom Tempus is the Spirit of Ecstasy, now in its 110th year, personalized with a unique date and location of particular importance to the customer. A marriage, the birth of a child, what to you, if you have the millions and you are one of the 20 lucky ones, seems remarkable.
