Hu chocolate is our new obsession with food comfort

We love these products and we hope they will too. IS! has affiliate relationships, so we may get a small fraction of the revenue from your purchases. The items are sold by the dealer, not by E!.

We have a famous sweet tooth, but we also have dietary restrictions. No dairy products. No refined sugar. No spicy ingredients that cause gastrointestinal discomfort. Which pretty much takes away all the good chocolate … or so we thought, until we met Hu Chocolate.

Hu, which derives from the phrase “Food For Humans”, created their chocolate offerings with a philosophy in mind: that is, that food can be delicious with simple, high-quality ingredients that help people come back to life , eat and thrive like humans. All of their offerings are vegan, paleo, gluten-free, non-GMO and Kosher, with no refined sugar, brown sugar or sugar alcohols, among other questionable additives. And each article presents a list of ingredients that you can actually read and understand.

Take their plain dark chocolate, for example. It is made of organic fair trade cocoa, unrefined organic coconut sugar, organic fair trade cocoa butter … that’s it.

Our obsession started quite innocently when we discovered Hu Chocolate in our local grocery store and took the Almond Butter + Puffed Quinoa Dark Chocolate bar. So we went back the following week and bought it again. So it became a weekend ritual to take one for breakfast every Saturday morning while shopping, letting the harmony of flavors, bitter and sweet melt against our tongue as we filled the trolley with essentials for next week.

So we thought it would be a good idea to have an escort at work, which is where Hu Gems and Hu Hunks entered … but neither lasted very long. The hunks were too damn good, with a mixture of salty sweetness that combined with the crunch of almonds or cashews, depending on which bag we dipped. And the gems? Well … you will find out what happened with the Gems below.

Suffice it to say that Hu drove us crazy. We never expected that chocolate with so many no-no ingredients could be so … yes! Everything is delicious and we don’t miss any of the bars we used to satisfy our palate. And the best part is that we don’t feel guilty when we eat it (which could be why we eat it so much)! This must be part of the magic of tasting food with real, pure and whole ingredients.

We invite you to join us in our new obsession by purchasing our favorites below. Trust us: you won’t regret it.

Quinoa Hu vanilla Qrispy chocolate bars

Let’s assume you can start slowly and get just a pack of four of these vanilla Qrispy quinoa chocolate bars, which are basically a healthier version of a Nestle Crunch. With 70% dark chocolate, the delicate sweetness of the real vanilla bean powder and the gluten-free puffed quinoa, it is sweet and crunchy in all the right ways. (There are other multi-flavor packs to choose from if this flavor doesn’t make your boat float.)

Hu vegan chocolate bars, variety of 8 packs

But really, you should try and immerse yourself in the deep end of the chocolate delicacy with this combined package, with eight flavors to try and find your favorite. If we can be so bold, we highly recommend salted dark chocolate, crisp mint dark chocolate and hazelnut butter, which has the flavor of nutella in the form of a bar (but without all the processed sugar and junk). Trust us, the only thing you’ll regret buying this sample pack is the moment you finish the last square and realize that you have bought two sample packs.

We are also obsessed with Bearaby’s gorgeous weighted blanket, so you should take a look at that too.
