Noel Whelan has admitted that he is worried that Stoke City will watch Luton Town’s Elland Road game plan against Leeds United as they prepare to face the whites on Thursday.
Luton’s struggling Nathan Jones squad scored a 1-1 draw in Leeds last week, despite having been beaten to be comfortably beaten by championship leaders Marcelo Bielsa.
Luton was compact and frustrated with his approach to Leeds, so he took the opportunity when he showed up.
Leeds returned on Saturday by beating Blackburn Rovers 3-1 at Ewood Park and the next welcome to Stoke on Thursday.
Whelan is worried that Stoke will look at what Luton has done so well against Leeds and try to replicate it.
“I’m worried that Stoke will watch the DVDs of the Luton game, see how they went and how they left with a dot”Whelan said on BBC Radio Leeds after the Ewood Park clash.
“I think it might be another one of those Thursday games.”
Leeds’ victory at Blackburn means that they have maintained a six-point lead over Brentford in third place, but the Bees are in excellent shape, having won their last five games on the rebound, while Fulham in fourth place has now won against two started since he lost Elland Road positions himself to take advantage of any disadvantages.
And Whelan admits that Leeds is still under pressure for results.
“Other teams are still winning behind us, so the pressure is still on us.
“Between today and Thursday’s Stoke game we have to make sure we are right, we are prepared, in a good place mentally and ready to go out there and leave everything on the field like we did today”, He added.
After playing Stoke, Leeds faces Swansea City, Barnsley, Derby county and Charlton Athletic.
