The forecaster said that 10 cm of snow was expected to be in a wide range, with parts in the north of Cambridgeshire up to 20 cm wide.
An amber warning has been issued, which lasts from 4 am to 6 pm on Sunday. Residents should expect "delays on the road, by rail and in the air" as well as "stranding vehicles and canceling public transport".
In a statement, a Met Office spokesman said, "On Sunday, a snowspire is expected over a central point in the UK. This snow begins to develop in the early hours of Sunday, with the heaviest and most stubborn snow expected on Sunday morning. 10 cm probably looks quite wide in this warning area, with spots of 15-20 cm. "
Where winter showers occur, the Met Office has asked residents to pay attention to the streets. The temperatures in rural areas are expected to drop by -2 degrees overnight, although strong winds feel colder.
