Jose Mourinho’s message to Oliver Skipp and Tanguy Ndombele on his line to face Norwich

Tottenham Hotspur coach Jose Mourinho may remind Tanguy Ndombele to play Eric Dier and Oliver Skipp against Norwich City.

Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko are suspended for the game after collecting yellow cards in Boxing Day’s win against Brighton.

Both players reached a limit on reservations which triggered an automatic ban on a game to prevent them from playing on Carrow Road.

Ndombele didn’t even make a bench against Brighton after telling the coaching staff he wasn’t in the right shape for the tournament.

Speaking after winning at Tottenham Hotspur on Boxing Day, Mourinho suggested that the Frenchman could secure a place in his selection of teams for Norwich.

“I think Ndombele was honest,” he said. “Soccer players like to play football. For him to say that I don’t feel safe, I don’t feel in the best condition because of my previous injuries, he was just honest.

“But today we had solutions. We had [Eric] Dier, we had [Harry] Winks [Oliver] Skipp, who is an exceptional child who struggles to improve, for a place. Today we have had solutions, against Norwich fewer solutions. But let’s see. “

Ndombele participated in post-game training sessions at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium along with other suspended players such as Son Heung-min and others who did not participate in the victory over Brighton.

Mourinho hinted that his decision on who would play in midfield would fall in the training session on Friday December 27, the day before the game.

“I hope he can come back to me tomorrow morning after training and say I’m ready to help the team,” said the Portuguese on Wednesday evening, after beating Brighton.

At the start of the same press conference, the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager criticized his player for not making himself available to play.

“I can’t say he’s injured,” said Mourinho in response to a question about Ndombele that didn’t make the team the day of the match.

“In five minutes we start a training session and you can go to the stands and watch him, he will train normally, so I can’t say he is injured. I can say that yesterday he told me that he was not in a position to play the game.

“Not based on injuries, based on fears of previous injuries he has had since the beginning of the season.

“Feeling not ready to start the game, but I can’t say he’s injured, I can say he isn’t in a position to start the game, which is different.”

Dier has played in eight of Mourinho’s first nine games in charge, making seven starts.

By contrast, Ndombele has only made one start since the appointment of the new Spurs head coach.

His other three appearances came as a substitute and was praised for his job off the bench in recent defeats against Chelsea and Manchester United.

Skipp has yet to act for the Portuguese, although he made his debut with Mauricio Pochettino.
