Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp has admitted that he committed one of the "biggest mistakes" in his career when he refused the opportunity to sign Sadio Mane when he was responsible for Borussia Dortmund.
Mane has scored 42 goals and 20 assists in 100 appearances for the Reds since joining a £ 37m deal in Southampton in July 2016. And the striker had during his time at Red Bull Salzburg an ever better record appearances for the Austrian Bundesliga.
However, this sum was still not enough to convince Klopp to bring the Senegalese to Dortmund in 2014, when he eventually moved to Southampton in the Premier League.
About the Liverpool Echo said the German: "I made a few mistakes in my life, and one of my biggest mistakes was that I did not meet Sadio in Dortmund.
"We were in an office together and I talked to him, after that I was not sure, but that was really my fault!"
Fortunately, the mistake did not chase him too long when the 51-year-old signed his first mistake two years later at Liverpool: "He's an excellent boy and life gave me a second chance to work with him and hopefully we can use both ,
"The time I spent with Sadio Mane was fantastic, I love the boy, he's a great player."
Mane has nine goals and three assists this season as the Merseysiders have made the first attempt to win the Premier League for the first time in their history since their arrival. Before Manchester City's Wolves encounter on Monday night, they are seven points ahead of the table. Crystal Palace is the next challenger this Saturday in Anfield.
