MILAN: Juventus midfielder Sami Khedira has been suspended for three months following knee surgery, the Italian champion said Wednesday (4 December).

The world champion of 2014 was operated on in his native Germany.

"The surgery was perfect and the player can start rehabilitation immediately," Juventus said in a statement.

"The expected recovery time is about three months."

The 32-year-old has played a key role in Maurizio Sarri's team this season.

He has played in 13 of Juventus' 14 league games and missed only the 2-2 against Sassuolo last weekend, with the Turin losing their first points this season and sneaking into second place behind Inter Milan.

The former Real Madrid and Stuttgart player joined Juventus in 2015 and has won four Serie A titles and three Coppa Italia trophies.
