So we are surprised to learn that the Duchess of Cambridge dared to break an ancient royal rule on her wedding day – and no one noticed it until now!
Kate and Prince William were married in April 2011, in a ceremony that was televised around the world.
Everything looked perfect: the bride wore a lovely dress, her engagement ring was the same as Diana of Wales’s, and the couple looked more than in love.
However, there was one detail that set Kate apart from other royal brides: the clue is in her hair.
According to the documentary William & Kate: The Journey,The monarchy has a long tradition that women of the monarchy must wear their hair up on their wedding day.
However, when Kate was asked by royal officials to do her hair this way, she flatly refused.
In said documentary, it is not specified why royalty has this tradition, but it does specify that Kate insisted on wearing her hair down.
Thus, she became one of the few brides of British royalty to show off her hair in all its splendor. The tiara and veil looked even prettier framed by her wavy locks!
For everything else, the wedding between Kate and William complied with all the rules and traditions of the British crown: it was a dream!
Meghan Markle and Princess Eugenie, who married after Kate, did adhere to the tradition of the monarchy and wore an updo at their respective weddings.
However, it seems Kate Middleton imprinted her style in the traditions of royalty, as Princess Beatrice also wore her loose hair on the day she married Edoardo Mapelli.
Over the years, the Duchess of Cambridge has proven that loose hair is her preferred style, as it is the one she uses most at her engagements and royal events.
And, with such beautiful hair, why wouldn’t you want to show it off?
Did you notice this detail at Prince William’s wedding to Kate Middleton? Do you think she would have looked better with an updo or did she make the right choice by wearing her hair down? Leave your opinion in the comments!
